Supine Position

Lying face-up on the massage table.

The supine position — lying face-up — gives the practitioner access to the chest, abdomen, anterior neck, face, and front of the legs. Many massage sessions include time in both prone and supine positions. Supine work is particularly important for addressing chest tightness from desk work, facial tension from stress, and anterior hip flexor tightness.
